The vibrant sound of the past is resonating once again in Roisan, thanks to the meticulous restoration project of the organ in the Church of San Vittore. This remarkable initiative has received support from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, the CEI (Italian Bishops’ Conference), the Municipality of Roisan, and the Parish of Roisan.
The exquisite organ, located at the entrance of the church, is a creation of Giovanni Battista Franzetti and Ferdinando Arioli from Gemonio, dating back to 1831. A pastoral visit in 1833 praised the organ, highlighting the passion and dedication of the community and the clergy.
The intervention in 1913 by Dal Molin and Cordone had altered the organ’s sound quality. However, thanks to the latest restoration project, the organ has been returned to its original design, reaffirming its prestige as one of the few organs in the Valle d'Aosta with the distinctive "Sexto organ" typology.
The Marzi Italo Snc company from Pogno took care of the musical restoration, while the woodwork was entrusted to the restorer Novella Cuaz. The renovation involved extensive work, from consolidating the pipes and framework, to overhauling the mechanics, and treating for woodworm.
During the restoration phase, the organ’s woodwork revealed various chromatic phases. The decision to recover the original polychromy led to the rediscovery of a modest yet imposing organ case.
